Description
RFID hotel key cards are advanced access devices used in the hospitality industry. They are credit – card – sized plastic cards that contain an RFID chip and an antenna. Instead of using traditional mechanical or magnetic – stripe – based methods for access, they rely on radio – frequency technology to communicate with door – lock readers.
When the RFID hotel key card is brought near the door – lock reader (usually within a few centimeters), the reader emits a radio – frequency signal. The antenna on the card captures this signal and uses it to power the RFID chip.
The chip then transmits its unique identification code back to the reader through a modulated radio – frequency signal. The reader decodes this signal and sends the information to the hotel’s access control system.
The access control system checks the received identification code against a database of authorized codes. If the code matches and the card has the appropriate access rights (such as access to a particular guest room), the system sends a signal to the door – lock mechanism to unlock the door.

Applications in the Hotel Industry
Room Access
The primary application is for guests to access their assigned hotel rooms. The RFID key card provides a quick and efficient way to enter and exit the room.
Access to Hotel Facilities
In addition to room access, RFID key cards can be used to grant guests access to other hotel facilities such as fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers, and meeting rooms. This allows hotels to control access to these areas and ensure that only authorized guests can use them.
Payment and Billing
Some hotels integrate RFID key cards with their payment systems. Guests can use the card to make purchases at the hotel’s restaurants, bars, gift shops, or other outlets. This provides a convenient cashless payment option and simplifies the billing process for both guests and the hotel.
